Limerick casino gamblers get the Royale treatment
The polished piece of mahogany from which actor Daniel Craig raked in £130-million (€192 million) winnings in the latest Bond movie, Casino Royale, has been bought for use in Limerick’s first casino.
The owners of the new casino would not specify how much they paid for the table other than saying it cost them “a small fortune”.
The casino, which will be known as Fitzpatrick’s Sports Emporium, will be located at Upper Glentworth Street.
It is due to open in the New Year.
And another Bond-like feature will be a fingerprint security device to verify the identity of members when entering the club.
The Bond poker table was bought at an auction of the movie props after filming was completed.
A spokesman for the new casino said: “We see a long future for our casino in Limerick which has seen new bars, hotels and restaurants cropping up in recent times. It is going to be an exclusive members’ club.”
An annual membership fee will be charged and the casino operators will give out 300 free year-long memberships to mark the opening of the facility.
The casino spokesman said: “We want to bring card games out of the backs of pubs and enable people to sit down in a proper poker-playing environment.”
As part of the planning granted by Limerick City Council, no food or alcohol can be served without the prior permission of the council.
“The club will rival anything you will find in Dublin and will prove to be a magnificent addition to the current developments going on in Limerick at the present time,” said the spokesman for the casino promoters.
