16,000 pensioners suffer ‘fuel poverty’

SOME 16,300 pensioners are experiencing “fuel poverty”, where more than 10% of household income is spent on keeping the home warm.

The figure was released yesterday by Age Action Ireland as it prepared to launch its new Stay Well and Warm campaign.

As part of the campaign, which will be launched today, older people have been urged to take the necessary steps to stay warm this winter.
