Festive eaters go cold turkey on big birds

THE days of the massive turkey on the Christmas Day table are numbered as Irish families get smaller and broaden their tastes.

Consumers are increasingly buying smaller birds or they are opting for cuts like the crown or a roll of turkey.

Ireland’s largest grocer, Tesco, said sales of whole birds are down by between 3% to 5% as new shopping trends emerge.
