Moyross IT project to help jobseekers

A NEW high-spec IT facility in the troubled area of Moyross in north Limerick city is to support children doing their homework and provide young people with job seeking skills.

The Moyross Development Company project will be funded by a $30,000 (€22,837) grant from computer giant Dell, in the first Dell Foundation grant to be donated in Limerick.

Elaine Slattery, of Moyross Development Company, said: “Training and upskilling helps tackle unemployment and even crime.

“The ability to provide computer training for the young people in the area will give them direction, focus and opportunities for their future.”

In an area with an estimated 21% unemployment rate, the IT access will be used to help support children doing their homework, and provide young people with a new range of skills that will help in job seeking efforts.

It will also provide the facilities to increase the numbers of young people availing of accredited IT modules.

Kevin Rollins of Dell said: “The funding will be used to equip a high-spec computer room based in the Moyross Enterprise Units.”

He said Dell Foundation seeks to form community partnerships that the company can support in the provision of educational services.

Mr Rollins said: “We hope that the provision of funding to equip a new IT resource for the community will help to complement the impressive range of programmes already under way in the community.”
