Prison attack on man charged in Wicklow abduction
The man, who was charged at Castleisland District Court, Co Kerry on Thursday morning with imprisoning a woman and with assault causing bodily harm to her at Military Road, Glasamucky, Dublin on November 19, was later remanded to Cork Prison.
A spokesman confirmed that an attack had taken place on a prisoner but said it was a minor incident.
The court in Tralee had heard that the unemployed man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had met the woman in Harcourt Street, Dublin, and driven her to the Wicklow mountains where he used cable ties to tie her hands, then drove her around the area for about five hours.
He also assaulted her badly with a stick around the hands and face.
The man will appear in Tralee District Court next Wednesday.
