All you need is ‘Love’ for Xmas

A NEW Beatles album, overseen by the world’s most famous producer George Martin looks set to be a Christmas bestseller.

All you need is ‘Love’ for Xmas

Existing master tapes were used to remix songs into what is described as a “unique soundscape” entitled Love, which is officially released today.

Love began life as a collaboration between the surviving Beatles and entertainment troupe Cirque Du Soleil for their Las Vegas show. The result is an album of reworked Beatles’ songs.

Paul McCartney said: “This album puts the Beatles back together again.”

There was more than a twinkle of emotion in producer George Martin’s eye when he was asked what he thought John and George would think of Love.

“I think they would have liked it. To be honest, I believe they were there with us as we worked on it.” he said.

The legendary producer was speaking at the album’s launch in Abbey Road’s Studio 2.

When approached, three years ago, to create a soundtrack to a Beatles-themed show by Cirque Du Soleil, Martin enlisted help from his producer son, Giles.

Martin, 80, said: “The condition was that we could use any sound we liked that had been recorded by the Beatles.

“This gave us an enormous palette to work with while keeping us disciplined in not doing anything unsuitable.

“I never thought I would get this involved with the Beatles again. It’s been a real journey but we were doing something worthwhile.”

Of course, the idea for the album itself distorts the songs that Beatles fans have been familiar with for over 40 years, in some cases to unrecognisable effect. “There will be a lot of people pissed off about this” Giles Martin said, “but it was all in fun.”
