Last night, his official website posted the following newsflash: “Celtic Tiger Touring Inc. has cancelled all European dates for Celtic Tiger starring Michael Flatley due to serious illness. Michael Flatley remains in hospital and is unavailable for comment.”
While the exact nature of his illness still remains a mystery, his admission to hospital was not thought to be a routine matter.
Fermoy resident Mr Flatley, 48, had been training and rehearsing for his return to the Point Theatre in December with his latest dance show, Celtic Tiger.
“The show itself is a 90 minute spectacular. It is very fast moving, powerful and hard-hitting,” Mr Flatley recently said.
Career-wise, 2006 has been a great year for Flatley, selling out venues for shows all over Europe, shows which have now been cancelled.
Last month, the Lord of the Dance and Riverdance star married Niamh O’Brien.
The ceremony was held at St Patrick’s Church, two miles from Mr Flatley’s home in Castlehyde. Thousands of residents from Fermoy turned out for the event. Mr Flatley spent about five minutes shaking hands and kissing well-wishers before finally making it through the crowd and into the church.
It was recently disclosed that his wife is expecting the couple’s first baby.
