Hospital gets A&E boost

FEARS the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department at Mallow General Hospital could be downgraded or closed have been allayed with news that a dedicated casualty officer is to be appointed there.

Deputy Joe Sherlock, who is chairman of the Mallow Hospital Retention and Action Committee, said he was pleased with the news he received from Health Service Executive (HSE) South deputy general manager, Tony Long.

Mr Long said the HSE is in the process of appointing a casualty officer who will provide medical cover during core hours.
