A FRAIL elderly man with Alzheimer’s suffered a severe burn in a nursing home after he was left strapped in a special chair next to a radiator.

The wound became infected with MRSA and played a role in the death of 81-year-old Henry Pollard 46 days later, Cork Coroner’s Court heard yesterday.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster said although MRSA didn’t cause Mr Pollard’s death, it did “tip the balance”.
