Almost 100 jobs to go at Youghal carpet manufacturers

ALMOST 100 jobs are to be lost at Couristan carpets in east Cork after the company announced it was bringing carpet manufacturing in Youghal to an end for the first time since 1954.

Couristan Ireland took over the famed manufacturing facility after the closure of Youghal Carpets in 1984. The company continued manufacturing Axminster carpets in the seaside town under the name Couristan.

However, the company advised its workforce that 92 jobs are to be lost due to “continuing losses over the last three years which could no longer be sustained”.
