New mobile phone sports show sees Dunphy cash in

Dissenting soccer pundit Eamon Dunphy is set to host his own show from his living room live to your mobile.

The exclusively mobile-made series, in conjunction with phone company 3, is set to land Mr Dunphy €100,000.

The show will be broadcast two days a week — for 10 minutes before lunch on Mondays and a 90-second preview show on Fridays.

Sponsors and media hosts, 3, say Dunphy will cover everything from the Premiership to Ireland internationals as well as other major sports games from weekend fixtures.

Dunphy says his fans though won’t have to be at home themselves to tune into his debates.

“3 is offering the armchair pundit the chance to take part in the football debate, wherever they are. Now you don’t need to be stuck at home in front of the TV to know exactly what’s happening on and off the pitch,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to broadcasting my views to a new mobile audience and for the first time, I’ll be giving Irish football fans a chance to have the last word with their own video comments. Join me on 3 for the real action on the pitch.”

The streaming of the show to mobile phones, will be free for 3 customers. Angry or disgruntled fans though will also get a chance at the last word or to go head to head with Dunphy by sending in their own video clips to the show commentating on games.

Dunphy will also be bringing back his legendary weekend bet, giving tips for results as well as other showstoppers like ‘Spoofer of the week’.

The controversial critic’s show comes on phones after the successful run of the Hive fronted by music legend Tom Dunne, as well as repeats of the best of Father Ted and Premiership highlights.

Speaking on the launch of the new show, David Riley, 3’s Head of Entertainment said: “There’s no-one quite like Dunphy and this is the first show of its kind in Ireland, brought to our viewers from Dunphy’s own front room.”
