Final meeting unlikely to save Roches jobs
Yesterday morning, the 172 Roches staff held their first redundancy talks with company management at their former workplace at the Wilton Shopping Centre. They are being let go by Roches because a deal it had with Marks & Spencer whereby the British retailer would take on the staff and continue its lease has fallen through. That is because it had not been approved by the centre owner, Joe O’Donovan.
He wants more money per square foot and not to hand over the entire 45,000 square foot unit. The last week has seen M&S and Mr O’Donovan fail to reach agreement over terms and last Friday the staff were told they were being made redundant.
