AIB urged to prioritise charitable donations

AIB Bank has been urged to give money to community and voluntary projects in Tramore and Waterford city as part of the €20.6 million it is to donate to charities in lieu of compensating overcharged customers it can no longer trace.

Councillor John Halligan, a general election candidate for the Workers’ Party in Waterford, feels that as it has been found that incorrect interest charges were applied at the AIB branches in Tramore and O’Connell Street, Waterford, in the late 1980s, the bank’s charitable fund should prioritise projects in these areas.

“AIB have confirmed that they are refunding €600,000 to approximately 600 customers who were charged excessive interest in Tramore and Waterford.
