Council hosts business seminar

WATERFORD’S appeal as a hub of industry and commerce as well as a great place to live and work is to be promoted at a conference next month which is the brainchild of the local county council.

Business, industry and property entrepreneurs from around the country are being invited to the brain-storming session at the Clonea Strand Hotel on October 12.

Four hundred of the country’s top business people have been invited to participate in the ‘Invest in Waterford’ seminar, a session which features an impressive line-up of speakers ranging from high profile economist, Jim Power, and the CEOs of several major companies.

The council’s director of community and enterprise services, Brian White, said the seminar provided a “window of opportunity” to explain why it’s good to invest in this county.

“We want to send the message out that Waterford is open for business,” he said.

Guest speakers at the event include County Mayor Mary Greene, Professor Byrne of WIT, Barry O’Callaghan, chief executive officer of Riverdeep; John Bowen, chairman and of the Bowen Group; Billy Clancy, director of Clancy Construction and Lavine Ltd. and Jim Power, chief economist of Friends First.

Also addressing the seminar on the day will be Sahar Hashemi, founder of the Coffee Republic and author of ‘If Anyone Can Do It’.
