For the love of golf: the volunteers who make it happen

OPPOSITES attract at the Ryder Cup: on one side of the security ropes are those who stay in luxury and play for millions; on the other side are those who toil for free shirts and €8 food vouchers.

The K Club might be the ultimate symbol of wealth in Celtic Tiger Ireland, but it’s taking a large army of volunteers to enable the exclusive course to host the world’s greatest golfing tournament.

The helpers include Co Cork foursome, Micheal Kenefick from Whitegate as well as Vera Santry, Veronica Whyte and Mary Lysaght, all from Fermoy, who are among the 700 marshals at the K Club for the week.
