ANGRY parents in a Cork village have said their children’s lives will be put at risk by drivers trying to dodge paying tolls on the Fermoy bypass after it opens on October 2.

Watergrasshill residents have also threatened to block roads, if they are not listened to, claiming that instead of bypassing the village the National Roads Authority (NRA) and Cork County Council are effectively turning it into a potential deathtrap.

When the village was bypassed in September 2003 traffic levels fell dramatically. But, when the Fermoy bypass — which starts just a few hundred yards north of Watergrasshill — opens next month, motorists trying to dodge the toll will be forced to drive through it again.
