Priest implores people not to take revenge
“Things are pretty raw here at the moment. I would appeal to people to remain within the law,” said Fr Frank O’Dea.
“The natural reaction would be to get back at people, but that won’t get us anywhere. I would appeal to people to co-operate with the agencies whose job it is to solve this,” he added.
Fr O’Dea said he was horrified at what had happened on Sunday.
“It is a new low; two innocent children burned ... but it might be a catalyst for something new to bring people together, and, hopefully, enable people to get past this.
“Most good things [in Moyross] go unnoticed. It is very depressing to be put back in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.”
Chief Superintendent Willie Keane, head of the Limerick garda division, pledged yesterday to deploy every resource at his disposal to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
Chief Supt Keane described the situation in Moyross, where extra garda patrols have been mounted, as “intense”, and he confirmed that gardaí had been attacked in the area.
A special incident room, set up at Mayorstone garda station, can be contacted on 061 456989.
