TOURISM Minister John O’Donoghue yesterday unveiled a major shake-up of the industry aimed at sharpening Ireland’s edge in attracting visitors.

Announcing the heads of five new regional tourism development boards, the minister said the move would allow individual parts of the country to market their distinctive characters more successfully.

The overhaul is a key plank in boosting Ireland’s tourist economy, according to the minister, and will see the boards develop localised initiatives under the umbrella of Fáilte Ireland.
