FIANNA FÁIL is wooing a party defector to stand as a candidate in Cork South West in the general election.

Cllr Christy O’Sullivan, from Clonakilty, left the party in 1999, but he confirmed yesterday that he is in ongoing discussions with Fianna Fáil headquarters.

The move probably explains the party’s delay in holding a selection convention and its fear that it may not be able to hold onto its second seat in the constituency following the retirement of Joe Walsh.
