The presenter, who jumped ship as Irish anchor for Sky News, starts her new daytime chat show on October 2.

Going out live from the Montrose studio between 4.30pm and 5.25pm, the discussion-based format was described as “topical, but not a news programme”.

She said: “We will be encouraging as much audience participation as we can.”

Meanwhile, Montrose broadcasting chief Noel Curran said RTÉ2 has bounced back as the country’s second most-watched television channel.

Introducing RTÉ TV’s new autumn offerings yesterday, director of television Mr Curran noted the upswing in fortunes since the second channel’s relaunch 18 months ago. Earlier this year it took back the second slot from TV3.

Mr Curran said RTÉ would deliver a huge range of home-produced programmes, both in-house and independently produced. They had made significant investment in home productions.

In the autumn schedule, RTÉ Drama will screen a new series called Legend. Set in west Dublin, it features some of Ireland’s best young actors, including Padraic Delaney, star of the award-winning The Wind that Shakes the Barley.

Finance guru Eddie Hobbs will be telling the nation 30 Things To Do With Your SSIA, while David McWilliams presents a three-parter In Search of the Pope’s Children.

Regulars back include John Kelly’s popular late night arts programme The View, and the seventh series of the fashion programme Off the Rails.

The Great Escape follows four families who move abroad in pursuit of the good life, while the hit series Families in Trouble returns for a second season.

Former Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald is subject to a four-part profile marking his 80th birthday, while GAA broadcast legend Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh is the subject of a one-hour documentary.

The Podge and Rodge Show is back, as well as the third series of Killinaskully and the Ex-Files,.

Ryan Tubridy returns with his Tubridy Tonight show on September 23 and Pat Kenny is back with The Late, Late Show — now in its 45th season.
