CORK will host a major science exhibition in November, which is being especially geared for children.

Exhibition aims to boost youth interest in sciences

The announcement was made yesterday by Minister Micháel Martin who said that as part of National Science Week ‘Discovery 2006’ will be held in Cork City Hall from November 14-16.

Mr Martin said diverse organisations would be supporting the exhibition which will focus on presenting science, engineering and technology in an exciting interactive environment. The aim is to get students to think about a related career, which is essential to the Government’s strategy to encourage more to work in such professions.

Starting salaries for science, engineering and technology graduates are amongst the highest of all Irish graduates.

“Locally-based science, engineering and technology companies are being invited to participate in the exhibition, linking the fantastic work being done in the Cork region to science subjects studied at school,” Mr Martin said.

The exhibition is the brainchild of a committee of Cork City Learning Forum, which includes representatives from Cork Institute of Technology, University College Cork, FÁS, IBEC, Cork Electronic Industry and the Irish Primary Schools Network.
