IRELAND will be one of several European countries that will today exert strong pressure on the British, German and Czech governments to accept the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern said that today’s specially convened meeting of EU foreign ministers could lead to a unified EU call for an immediate ceasefire.

“We will be very strongly supporting other countries in this call to send out a very strong message, a very robust line,” he said.
