City gears up for biggest festival yet

FINAL preparations are being made in Waterford ahead of what promises to be the biggest, best and brightest Spraoi festival to take place in the city.

Spraoi Festival ’06 takes place from Friday, August 4, to Sunday, August 6. And in keeping with Spraoi festivals down through the years, three days and nights of great, free entertainment, will be served up in the traditional manner.

Director TV Honan says that while the programme is expanded each year, this year’s festival directory features even more for revellers of all ages. But a special highlight this year will be the Irish premiere of The Drummers of Burundi.

Another highlight will be a show that will run in the windows of electrical shop Sherwoods. The show is about two families, one which lives downstairs, the other upstairs. It will be played out in the two shop windows, one on each level.

The Spraoi parade, which runs on the final day of the festival, is always an explosion of colour and light.
