Gardaí to further interview driver of fatal car crash
The youth had been arrested on Friday night after a row at a disco he attended with the girls who died, Leanne Miller and Robyn O’Riordan, both aged 15.
He was released after his mother was called by gardaí.
A short time later, the car he was driving went out of control leading to the death of the two girls who were rear seat passengers.
The driver and another youth in the front were not badly injured.
A garda spokesman said yesterday: “The driver was interviewed, but not extensively interviewed. We are waiting for the funerals before he will be further interviewed.”
The funerals of Leanne Miller and Robyn O’Riordan will take place in Kilteely, Co Limerick, today.
Leanne and Robyn grew up as ‘sisters’ ever since Ben O’Riordan met with Leanne’s mother, Louise Miller.
The girls will be buried side by side after midday Mass in Kilteely.
A Requiem Mass for Robyn will be said at St Munchin’s Church, Thomondgate, at 10am and her remains will be then brought to Kilteely for the concelebrated Mass for both girls.
Fr Tom Egan of Kilteely, who will be one of the concelebrants at today’s Mass, said: “I knew both girls. They were full of the joys of youth and liked their fashion. They were two very fine young people.”
