Security guard brutally assaulted during raid

A LIMERICK security man was recovering in hospital yesterday after being brutally assaulted while he patrolled a premises at the Dock Road.

Thieves broke into the premises at about 12.30am and jumped the security man while he was on his rounds. The security man, although badly injured, managed to raise the alarm and the gang fled empty-handed.

Gardaí called an ambulance and the security man was brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he was still being treated yesterday. His injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Meanwhile Limerick gardaí are investigating the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy at Nicholas Street on Monday afternoon. The boy was stabbed in the neck and was treated at St John’s Hospital.

Another boy aged 14 was yesterday questioned by gardaí after he went voluntarily to a city garda station.
