A LIMERICK family escaped injury when shots were fired at their home late on Saturday night.

The incident happened at Sunnyside Court, Carew Park at 11.35pm.

Three men wearing balaclavas and armed with a shotgun, were seen leaving the scene.

Two shots were blasted at the front door of the house which was occupied at the time.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road station want to speak to anybody who may have been in the Carew Park area at the time.

In another incident two young men were rescued from the Shannon at around 4.30 am yesterday.

According to witnesses, one man was seen in difficulty in the river near Thomond Bridge and a passerby dived in to rescue him.

He managed to hold on to the man who was shouting for help and they were assisted from the river by firemen and gardaí who rushed to the scene.

Both were taken to Mid-Western Regional Hospital suffering from shock.
