O’Donoghue appoints new chairman of Bord na gCon

SPORTS Minister John O’Donoghue yesterday named Kerry veterinary surgeon and racecourse manager Dick O’Sullivan as Paschal Taggart’s replacement as chairman of Bord na gCon.

Mr Taggart stepped down as chairman yesterday after 10 years at the helm of the greyhound authority. It came a day after his final act as chairman, a characteristically combative and colourful performance before the Dáil’s financial watchdog, the public accounts committee.

Mr O’Sullivan, the manager of Punchestown Racecourse is already a board member of Bord na gCon. He and former SDLP leader Seamus Mallon were appointed earlier this year by the minister.
