THE State’s financial watchdog last night launched a sweeping probe into Bord na gCon.

Comptroller and Auditor General John Purcell said the move was sparked by the “continuing doubts being cast on the organisation in matters of propriety”.

The latest twist in the Bord na gCon saga came as outgoing chairman Paschal Taggart strongly defended his leadership of the greyhound industry over the past decade in robust exchanges with the Dail’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
