IT SHOULD have been a glorious summer adventure for the eight carefree pals who put to sea aboard a flat-bottomed boat.

But what was planned as a happy sea outing turned to tragedy and within a matter of minutes three of them were dead.

On July 15 local people will mark the 45th anniversary of the tragic drowning near the West Cork village of Rosscarbery by erecting a €3,000 stone and granite monument.
