ANGRY neighbours blockaded the home of two elderly people in Limerick when city council officials tried to move in and evict them.

The tenants, a 77-year-old woman, who is recovering from a stroke, and a retired soldier were still in the house yesterday.

There were angry and emotional scenes at Byrne Avenue, Prospect, when moves were made to evict Bertha Cleary and Brendan Harte. Council officials, accompanied by gardaí, went to the house at around midday on Tuesday.
