Health spend is well below EU average

SPENDING on the health services in Ireland is still substantially below the European Union average.

Non-capital spending on health care in Ireland fell from 5.6% of GDP in 1995 to 4.9% in 1998.

It has, however, been steadily increasing since then. The latest figure available is for 2004, when spending reached 6.5% of GDP.
