PRIVATE eye care professionals should be allowed to provide State-funded eye examinations for children, the Competition Authority has urged.

Children who qualify for the free eye examinations are identified during national school screening programmes.

Currently, parents must take their children to State-employed eye specialists to avail of the free eye test.
