Aldi granted permission for second store in city
Waterford County Council has granted permission for another Aldi store, this time on a site at the Kingsmeadow. The project will also include a café and car showroom.
Two objections/submissions had been lodged to the development, one from Green Party member Brendan McCann and the second from a neighbour. Three years ago, Aldi received permission for a store and leisure complex at Kingsmeadow, but a string of conditions were attached.
Among the conditions were that the site would be decontaminated to a standard which would be acceptable to the Environmental Protection Agency.
They submitted their application for Kingsmeadow in February and permission was granted in recent days.
In granting permission for the development, the city council attached 33 conditions, mostly relating to services (water and sewerage).
