NEW efforts to control bonfire night in Cork, which include a partial ban and special licences, were proposed yesterday.

A new bye-law banning bonfires after a certain time will be proposed at a city council next Monday night.

If passed, the powers would include the issuing of licenses to communities allowing bonfires to be lit in designated areas.
