ONE of the longest-serving people in Killarney’s multi-million tourism industry has retired.

Chef David O’Connell, who has worked in the town’s flagship Great Southern Hotel (GSH) for 50 years, has decided to put his feet up and let others do the cooking.

“There have been huge changes since I started out as a trainee chef, on April 1, 1956, at the age 15,” he recalled yesterday.
