IRELAND could face a crippling fuel crisis because of chronic over-dependency on imported supplies.

An Oireachtas committee warned yesterday that with oil becoming increasingly scarce and expensive, the situation could only worsen.

Their report concluded “Ireland is very vulnerable in terms of supply and price”, and called for a high level group to be appointed to find ways of reducing dependency on imports.
