IRISH doctors face a High Court challenge following Competition Authority allegations they are operating a cartel which fixes prices for life assurance services.

The Competition Authority enquiry is expected to lead to increased focus on other GP charges and whether they, too, are being fixed.

The authority wrote to the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) warning its GP membership that they must end the alleged practice by June 13.
