Grave Stalker’s tacky decorations draw families’ ire
Families claim some plots at Mount St Oliver cemetery look like pound shop window displays with the array of plastic angels, plastic flowers, gaudy love hearts and miniature statues.
The mystery man is being dubbed the Grave Stalker.
A spokesman for Limerick City Council said: “If somebody places an object on a grave there is very little we can do provided there is no damage.”
He said there were no rules about what objects can be placed on graves.
One woman who met the ‘grave stalker’ said he had shown her some of the graves he had “done up”.
“I was visiting my parents’ graves and found them defaced with pound shop trinkets. This man told me he had no relatives buried in Mount St Oliver, but looks after graves which are not being cared for. He then showed me the grave of a young girl he had done up. I think he thought he was doing something good.”
She said he had removed potted plans she had put by her parents’ graves and replaced them with ugly plastic flowers, a statue of the Virgin Mary and a fairy.
“I was disgusted,” she said.
The ‘grave stalker’ has also placed statues of leprechauns on plots and heaped other plots with glass fairies.
