Government ‘misled’ public over rendition flights at Shannon

OPPOSITION parties and human rights groups last night accused the Government of misleading the public over the alleged use of Shannon in extraordinary rendition flights.

The opposition said the Government had “serious questions” to answer following the publication of yesterday’s Council of Europe report.

Fine Gael spokesman Bernard Allen said: “Any Irish involvement with the unlawful transfer of detainees is unacceptable, and the charge being levelled against Ireland by the Council of Europe is an exceptionally serious one.
