‘Obscene’ rise in level of city’s homeless

HOMELESSNESS in Cork rose by 12% last year and the number of people using Simon’s day centre jumped 51%.

‘Obscene’ rise in level of city’s homeless

Cork Simon director Colette Kelleher said the figures were “obscene” given the levels of prosperity in the city.

The figures will be unveiled today at the launch of Cork Simon’s 2005 annual report. It shows the number of people using Simon’s emergency shelter grew by 12% last year to 422.
