THE backlog in the waiting list for driving tests may be tackled early next year under new plans, it emerged yesterday.

After extensive negotiations, the Labour Relations Commission has recommended a basis under which plans to outsource 40,000 completed tests could proceed.

Under the new plan, which has yet to be agreed by the driving testers, it is envisaged that a contract would be in place by July 1.
