Councils fined €10,000 for landfill licence breaches

TWO local authorities have been fined €10,000 in total for failing to run their landfills under the terms set down by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They could have been fined up to €15 million each for five separate offences.

Councils fined €10,000 for landfill licence breaches

Waterford City and County Council officials yesterday pleaded guilty to five separate offences in breach of the terms of licences for their landfills.

Waterford City Council director of services Michael Walsh pleaded guilty to failing to install measures which would burn off potentially harmful gases from its site at Kilbarry, and measures which would collect the gas and vent the site.
