One arrested as gardaí prevent bare-knuckle fight turning into a riot

ONE man was injured and another arrested when a strong force of gardaí in riot gear prevented a bare-knuckle Travellers’ fight turning into a bloody riot in Waterford yesterday.

Travellers from many parts of the country were at the organised fight on a halting site outside Waterford city.

Officers in riot gear were forced to intervene in a fracas between factions from Waterford and Offaly in the wake of the bare-knuckle fight, which escalated into an all-out brawl.
