Teenager undergoes surgery after shooting at his home

A 19-YEAR-OLD man underwent surgery yesterday for injuries he received following a shooting at his house in Cork.

Gardaí said that they have yet to establish any motive for the attack, which happened at his home at Ardmore Avenue, Knocknaheeny, at around 10.45pm on Saturday.

A garda spokesman said that two shots were fired through the front door. The firearm has not been recovered.

It is believed the young man suffered facial injuries from flying glass after the shots were fired through the front door. His mother, who was also in the house at the time, wasn’t injured.

He was initially treated at the Mercy Hospital and later discharged. The garda spokesman said he returned to hospital again yesterday to undergo surgery for minor facial wounds.

Gardaí want to interview three men who were seen outside the house at the time of the shooting.

“They were aged 18 to 25 and wearing dark clothing. We haven’t established any apparent motive,” the spokesman said.

He appealed for anybody who saw anything suspicious in the Ardmore Avenue area to contact Gurranabraher garda station on 021 4395540.

In Dublin, two teenagers remained in custody yesterday after being arrested on Saturday in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old man in Coolock, north Dublin.

In a second investigation, a man, suspected of being a cocaine dealer, continued to be questioned in relation to the discovery of a shotgun and a sawn-off shotgun inCabra, north Dublin on Saturday.
