A COMPANY which maintains engines for some of the world’s largest airlines could shut both of its Cork plants if unions do not accept a new pension scheme.

Sources have indicated that SIFCO, which employs 250 people in Blackrock and Carrigtwohill, may close after SIPTU members yesterday rejected a compromise proposal brokered by the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).

A total of 180 union members have been on strike since Friday at both plants, and are to meet again today to discuss the issue.
