Public spending to jump by €3.7bn to €45bn

Finance Minister Brian Cowen yesterday called on a slew of statistics suggesting continued economic buoyancy to justify the expenditure.

The 9.1% increase in expenditure for 2005 comes on the back of a projected 5% growth rate and an inflation rate that Finance estimates will be between 2 and 3%.
