Government falls 253,000 workers short on tax pledge

Next year nearly 150,000 more workers will be on the high rate than when the Government returned to office for its second term in 2002.

In the Programme for Government, Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats committed to ensuring that 80% of earners will only pay tax at the standard rate.
