‘Institutes to gain under new funding’

THE institutes of technology stand to gain rather than lose out when they come under the same funding mechanism as universities, the head of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Tom Boland, said yesterday.

The relevant legislation is being drafted by the Department of Education, which directly funds the country’s 14 ITs under current arrangements.

Mr Boland addressed a Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) conference on changes in higher education in Dublin yesterday.
