SPECIAL counselling services have been put in place at the University of Limerick (UL) following the suicide of two first year female students within a week.

Prior to another case last October there had been no student suicide for a seven-year period.

Jeremy Callaghan, director of student affairs at UL, said: “There had been no alarming trend. We are trying to identify any obvious aspect of the deaths. There appears to have been no connection between the two students who died in the past week.”
