Gardaí probe suspicious death

GARDAÍ are treating as suspicious the death of a man found by the roadside in Co Meath yesterday.

The body of the man was discovered near the entrance to a field in the Waterstown area, close to Dunboyne, by a person out walking.

The unidentified male has severe head injuries and appears to have been thrown into the bushes two miles from Dunboyne on the road to Leixlip.

The passerby who discovered the body alerted the gardaí at around 4.50pm. The scene was preserved for forensic examination.

State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy was to carry out a preliminary post mortem on the body last night. It was then expected to be removed to Navan Hospital where a full post mortem will be carried out this morning.

The man is 5'10" in height and has short, mousey-coloured hair. He was wearing a navy/black tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe on the side, a navy T-shirt and a navy/blue polo shirt. He was not wearing shoes but had black socks.

Gardaí in Ashbourne have appealed for anyone with information to come forward in the strictest confidence.
